Buckingham 15u Allstars win District Championship

Jun 15, 2022 1:38 PM

June 5th kicked off the 2022 District 15 Allstar tournament, and this year we had five teams from 9u-15u competing for their chance to bring home a title.  All fought hard, some came close, but only one Buckingham team was left standing at the end.

The 15u Allstar team, managed by Breeanna Leiderman, and assisted by Dustin Baucom and Matt Williams, was composed of 14 Allstars ranging in age from 13-15.  They began their journey Monday night against Cape Coral and came out of the gate with their bats swinging.  A mercy rule was declared in the bottom of the 5th inning as Buckingham surged ahead 14-3. After a rain delay Tuesday evening, the Allstar team took the field at Sam Fleishman park against San Carlos.  The team battled back from an early 2 run deficit to over take San Carlos 8-4 after 7 innings.  The back to back wins sent Buckingham straight to the championship game, but they knew they still had work to do.

After many rain delays, postponed games, and a come back win over Cape Coral, San Carlos emerged as the #2 seed headed into the championship round and was eager to square off against Buckingham again. It was a defensive game, remaining scoreless through the first two innings until an error at third base on a ball hit by Trey Bateman and some fancy footwork by Wyatt Roszell put the first run on the board.  An RBI single by Antony Leiderman brought the score to 2-0 for your Buckingham Allstars after 3 innings.  Two more 3 up 3 down innings by pitcher Peyton Williams put us into the bottom of the 5th where, after drawing a walk, Tanner Duval scored on a tag-up fly-out hit by Trey Bateman. In the top of the 6th, San Carlos earned one run after their lead off batter was hit by a pitch and advanced to 3rd on an error at 2nd base on a throw down play. Once in scoring position, he tagged up on a deep fly out to right center. A pitching change by San Carlos in the bottom of the 6th left the Buckingham bats momentarily quiet until Wyatt Roszell drew a walk on a full count with 2 outs. A wild pitch moved Roszell to second and then to third on a catcher's error.  Roszell scored on a dropped pop up hit by Peyton Williams to add to Buckingham's total. With San Carlos down by 3, Peyton Williams had another 3 up 3 down inning, with the final out being made by center fielder Nate Baucom to secure the win.

It was a phenomenal game of baseball played by your Buckingham Allstars with only one recorded error the entire game.  Bateman led Buckingham with 2 RBIs. 1 RBI was recorded for both Leiderman and Williams, with Childers, Squire, Duvall  and Roszell all recording hits throughout the game. The defensive play of the game went to shortstop Trey Bateman, second baseman Wyatt Roszell and first baseman Jadon Torres on a 6-4-3 double play in the 2nd inning.

Buckingham 15u will continue their battle at States in Sarasota beginning on July 14th.  Games will be live streamed on our Facebook page. In the meantime, we are pleased to celebrate your District 15 - 15u All Star Champions; Trey Bateman, Nathan Baucom, David Baugh, Liam Brophy, Anthony Cabrera, Brycen Childers, Tanner Duvall, Ralee Flavelle, James Kluch, Antony Leiderman, Wyatt Roszell, Hunter Squire, Jadon Torres and Peyton Williams.
